
There are many standard and proprietary RAID models available, which you can choose from depending on your needs. For example, when using RAID 5, you need at least 3 storage drives, one of which will be used to store parity information for data recovery if one drive fails. RAID introduces algorithms to use multiple storage drives for redundancy, thereby protecting against hardware failure. Aside from the use of NAS-specific storage drives, another contributing factor is the Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) capability. One primary reason why we use NAS over DAS is for greater reliability.
